On Friday, two exhibits celebrating Aurora open at the David L. Pierce Art and History Center (the DLP) in downtown Aurora. Don’t miss them! Here’s more info.

Aurora Story is a comprehensive exhibit of 175 years of Aurora’s history curated by the Aurora Historical Society (AKA John Jaros). Come wander through Aurora as you have never seen it, beginning with native American dwellings and touching on the high points and characteristics of this “city second to none.”

The opening reception and street party is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4. There will be refreshments, cash bar, music by the official band of the anniversary year, Bradley Green. Shop for all-new souvenirs, have a photo op with the goddess Aurora, and launch your summer party season! (Be sure to come back every month for cocktail parties celebrating the many ethnic flavors of Aurora.)

Also, the Aurora Public Art Commission is opening its show From the Ground Up on the third floor of the  DLP. Mayor’s awards for Historic Preservation will be given at 5:30 p.m.

Following the opening, the DLP galleries and museum store, located at 20 E. Downer, will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday  through Saturday.  Admission is FREE, donations appreciated. Free parking across the street in the Downer and Stolp Parking deck – bring your ticket in for validation.

And don’t forget to check out all of the gorgeous window displays near the DLP on Stolp and Downer that are part of the Vacant Window Project in downtown Aurora.

Fab, my friend, fab. See you Friday!
