“Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean” is now playing at the Riverfront Playhouse in downtown Aurora. My advice is to go see it now before you miss it. It’s a fun show with a great, colorful, and detailed set, and a fabulous all-female cast.
The impressive cast nails the show, a somewhat tricky story line with lots of dialogue. The show, written by Ed Graczyk, is directed by Gene Scheffler with co-direction by Cherilyn Winters (also the on-top-of-her-game set designer).
The play is described as an evening at a five and dime store in McCarthy, TX. The twist is that it is both set in 1955 and 20 years later, in 1975. The cast does an amazing job with the time variations, or dual time zones, if you will, with some actors playing both in the past and present in the same time and space continuum.
If you’re lost, then good. I don’t want to give too much away. Being a little lost in this show is half the fun. The other half is the fun, bawdy characters and edgy material.
The show stars Ramona Wood, Christine DeRenzis, Heidi Schultz, Kit and Selah Sunderland, Katrina Plonczynski, Katrina Syrris, Grace Henry, and Madeline Smith.
It runs through October 17 at Riverfront Playhouse, a non-profit community theater at 11 Water Street Mall in downtown Aurora. Call (630) 897-9496 to reserve seats for Friday or Saturday shows.
