One paragraph review: The Music Man

Aurora – The Music Man opened at the Paramount Theatre last week, and it’s a lively and heartwarming look at a bygone era. The set, the score, the costumes – all vibrant, powerful, and full of post-Victorian vigor. I took my daughter and my niece; the two first graders sat wide-eyed, and vertical the entire performance, and they clapped every chance they got. The Music Man is full of sweet moments, great dance numbers, clever dialogue, and fantastic actors; the mayor was possibly my favorite, however, Harold Hill (played by Stef Tovar) made me cry when he was honest with little Winthrop Paroo at the end. The parade wasn’t spectacular, but the entire performance was top-notch, and all I hoped for was a longer embrace before the curtain abruptly went down.

The Music Man runs at the Paramount until Feb. 3. Call 630-896-6666 for tickets.
