DOWNTOWN AURORA – A dozen women who share a common passion are among several artists who will shine in the spotlight this Friday night in downtown Aurora.

“Broad Strokes” features the work of local female artists who have influenced Aurora’s downtown art scene and opens from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Paramount Theatre’s second floor art gallery during First Fridays in Downtown Aurora on Dec. 6.

“The idea for the “Broad Strokes” exhibit came from a desire to recognize some of the very creative, dedicated women in our community who have worked tirelessly to bring art to downtown Aurora,” said Melissa Mercado, curator of the Paramount’s art gallery.

The show includes paintings by Rena Church, Melissa Mercado, Maureen Gasek, Cheryl Holz, Anne Von Ehr, Cassidy Alexander, Melissa Hedlund-Nelson, Jen Evans and Lisa Gloria; the poetry of Karen Fullett-Christensen; and creative works by Marissa Amoni and Jeanne Norris.

December’s First Friday event also opens up The ArtBar at Two Brothers Roundhouse from 6 p.m. to midnight with a “Six by Six” art show featuring works from more than two dozen local artists. The free show is located directly behind the Roundhouse’s tavern and music starts at 9 p.m.

Additional First Friday venues are If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave., auctioning off paper bag art for the Aurora Food Pantry from 7 to 10 p.m., Allen and Pepa Architects at 121 W. Benton features the art of Fatima Figueiredo from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Aurora Regional Fire Museum welcomes visitors to view the display of gingerbread firehouses from 6 to 9 p.m.

First Fridays in Downtown Aurora invites the community to enjoy art, music, food, theater and more on the first Friday of the month.
