Hexagons for Peace coming soon to the Vacant Window Project

Create a piece of art for peace. That’s what teacher Sue-z Bruno is asking community members to do.

Bruno, who teaches at Gates Elementary School in Aurora, also heads up PeaceJam, an international non-profit organization that has 13 Nobel Peace Prize Winners who have committed to mentoring youth.

Recently, Bruno worked with local PeaceJam students and community members to decorate hexagons at Fiestas Patrias at RiverEdge Park in September.

“We are going to invite others to join in honor or the International Day of Peace on September 21,” Bruno said.

Bruno plans to collect the hexagons and then install them in the Silverplate building, a Vacant Window Project at Downer and Stolp in downtown Aurora.

All ages are welcome to decorate a hexagon with art or words that creatively show their vision of peace.

Completed hexagons are due to Gates School by Sept. 28.
