Jerod Powell has a challenge for you. Powell, of Aurora, wants to see you bike the Fox this year. To this end, Powell ran with the idea of a Saturday morning ride along the Fox River that was brought to him by Dan Hites, the landlord for River’s Edge Cafe, where Powell works.
Powell invited folks via Facebook to participate in the first bike ride on April 18. About 30 riders showed up and congregated in front of River’s Edge Cafe and All Spoked Up on Downer Place in downtown Aurora. The ride started at 10 a.m. and took them to Oswego.
“The first ride was incredible. Who would have thought that with only a Facebook page and a little word of mouth we would get almost thirty riders to celebrate an awesome day of riding,” Powell said. He added that he was grateful to the cafe and to All Spoked Up for supporting the ride.
Powell wants the rides to accommodate both the first-time rider and veteran cyclists. He is already talking to other riders to make sure everyone has an “awesome experience.”
The rides are currently every other week, and Powell said they will soon continue on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month.
The next ride is Saturday, May 2 and will take riders north along the river. The rides start at River’s Edge Cafe at 9:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. departure.
“I hope that we can create an awesome community of cyclists here in Aurora and along the river,” Powell said.
