DOWNTOWN AURORA – Jared Mead sits atop one of his newly constructed garden boxes perched high above the daily grind and overlooking the Fox River. Once turned right-side-up, the garden box will be one of six that are filled with soil and young vegetable plantings readying their way to sandwiches and salads inside River’s Edge Cafe below.
Mead and other friends of the cafe will tend to the boxes this summer. Cafe owner Beth Standish hopes to add the bounty from the boxes to menu items mid-summer. Visit River’s Edge Cafe at 14 W. Downer, Suite 18.
Mead is taking donations to help offset costs for the rooftop garden, and Mead recently recorded a music CD with local musician Francis Laity that will sell for $5 at the cafe with proceeds benefiting the project.
