Happy Birthday, From Chris Evans

A birthday comes but once a year, but some lucky locals will have the chance to relive their special day on November 7 when artist Chris Evans opens his Birthday Card show at Yetee Gallery, 110 Cross St. in downtown Aurora.

On Friday, Nov. 7, as part of First Fridays in Downtown Aurora, Evans will display about 60 of the portraits that he drew on the envelopes of friend’s birthday cards from September 2013 to September 2014.

Evans, of Aurora, first drew a birthday portrait of friend Tony Scott on a last-minute whim. The portrait, drawn with markers and colored pencils on the back of a birthday card envelope, was an immediate hit at Scott’s party. The positive feedback encouraged Evans, who studied drawing at Northern Illinois University, to keep up the birthday blind contours.

Evans is no stranger at The Yetee; his show featuring artwork inspired by the films of Wes Anderson was hugely popular.

“It will be just fun to see all the portraits presented together and eat some cake,” said Evans, who has also illustrated two covers for Downtown Auroran Magazine
Birthday Card Party will be from 7 to 11 p.m. at Yetee Gallery. Evans will have a book of the drawings for sale.
