Aurora is always good for coming together to throw a great party. We fill up a bunch of businesses in downtown Aurora every first Friday of the month, we packed the new library for its grand opening, and we love a good art show on Water Street Mall.

When Alley Art Festival took a hiatus this year, a group of dedicated artists organized an outdoor version of the ArtBar; The Bazaar on Water Street was a hit even in the steamy weather earlier this month.

Alley Art Festival will be back on the last Saturday in August of next year with all of its spectacle and fun for everyone. Another summer staple, Louche Puce Market, will return to Water Street Mall in downtown Aurora on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Water Street Mall, between Galena Boulevard and Downer Place, is a real treasure with its friendly, pedestrian access and tall shade trees. It’s a perfect place to host an outdoor festival. It’s one of a few places in downtown that are carved out for public use.

Millennium Plaza on Stolp Avenue next to Leland Tower is another spot that is ripe for activity. A few years ago, local musicians utilized the gazebo at the plaza and performed a series of summer concerts for free.

The concert series was successful, but only lasted one season. Cue the segue.

This August, music is returning to Millennium Plaza in downtown Aurora.

In an effort to utilize this communal public space, local businesses are hosting a series of free live music concerts every Wednesday in August from 6 to 8 p.m. at Millennium Plaza.

The inaugural Wednesdays at the Plaza series will feature the following Fox Valley musical artists: Aug. 5, The Kevin Trudo; Aug. 12, Town Band; Aug. 19, Noah’s Arcade; Aug. 26, Greg Boerner and Jim Green.

It’s a great opportunity to join the community in supporting local musicians and businesses in downtown Aurora. People are invited to bring their family and enjoy a nice evening by the river.

The series is sponsored by Aurora Downtown, Downtown Auroran Magazine, The Compounder, The Yetee, Aurora Fastprint, Rocktown Adventures, and Louche Puce Market.

It’s not only a treat to see our community grow, but it’s rewarding to help create a city that makes us proud. I hope that everyone comes out and makes it another great time in our wonderful city.

And there might be a food truck.

A special thanks to Javi for heading up The Bazaar on Water Street, and a big thanks to my semi-employed best friend, Tony Scott, for assisting me in organizing Wednesdays at the Plaza.
